Belarus-Russia agreement on mutual recognition of visas to be ready in 2017

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will work out an agreement on mutual recognition of visas before the end of 2017, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov said in an interview to Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are working on the next stage in the development of the document on mutual recognition of visas. For instance, Belarus issues a visa to a citizen of Germany and it is automatically recognized by Russia. Thus, this third-country person can freely go to Russia. I believe that this intergovernmental agreement will be ready by the end of the year,” Alexander Surikov said.

Alexander Surikov stressed that the border will stay transparent for the citizens of Belarus and Russia. He also commented on the transfer of the flights from Belarus to the international terminals of the Russian airports following Belarus’ introduction of a five-day visa-free travel for the citizens of 80 countries. The diplomat believes that Russia’s decision is not a step back within the Union State. The global terrorism problem indicates a need to take into account such realities and fight these challenges and threats.

As BelTA earlier informed, on 15 May Russia transferred all the flights to the international sectors of the airports.
