Belarus, RSA discuss cooperation in sport

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Belarus and the Republic of South Africa are discussing the ways to develop cooperation in the sport sector. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Republic of South Africa Andrei Molchan and representatives of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) – Secretary General Tubby Reddy and member of the SASCOC Board, member of the International Olympic Committee Sam Ramsamy on 3 February, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The SASCOC representatives expressed interest in establishing direct cooperation between the National Olympic Committee of Belarus (NOC) and SASCOC. It was noted that close cooperation between Belarus and the RSA in sport would bring mutual benefit and could be developed in a number of areas. Thus, taking into account different climates it is promising to use the infrastructure of Belarus and the RSA to train athletes of the two countries, exchange experience and coaches in various sport disciplines.

The parties expressed readiness to send national teams to sport events held in the two countries.

The parties also emphasized that constructive interaction within the International Olympic Committee and the Association of National Olympic Committees is an important aspect in bilateral sport cooperation.

The sides agreed to look into the issue of signing an agreement on cooperation between the National Olympic Committee and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee.
