Belarus' resolution on digital economy to be included in OSCE PA Berlin Declaration

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus-sponsored resolution on digital economy will be included in OSCE PA Berlin Declaration, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The draft resolution authored by Belarus on the promotion of the digital economy in the interests of ensuring economic growth in the OSCE area was reviewed at a meeting of the General Committees; Economic Affairs, Science, Technologyand Environment. Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk presented the draft resolution to the members of the Parliamentary Assembly. It was unanimously supported by the participants of the meeting. The document will be included in the Berlin Declaration, which will be adopted at the closing meeting of the OSCE PA annual session on 11 Jule,the press service noted.

The draft resolution is designed to promote the digital economy in order to ensure the economic growth in the OSCE area. “In the face of new economic realities, the attention of the OSCE participating states is drawn to the issues of transition and adaption of society to digital economy, harmonization of standards, international cooperation. The goal is to bring countries closer, to overcome barriers, and digitalize international trade. The OSCE member states are urged to identify the problems in this area and draw up measures to overcome them with a view to ensuring the sustainable and harmonious social and economic development,” the press service of the house of Representatives said.

BelTA reported earlier that a delegation of the Belarusian parliament led by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk is taking part in the annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Berlin. The theme of this year’s annual session is “Implementing OSCE commitments: The role of parliaments.” The session is focused on the effective legislative measures the member states are expected to take in order to bolster international cooperation and honor commitments with regard to supporting peace and security in the OSCE region. The session will end on 11 July with the election of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly functionaries and the adoption of the Berlin declaration. The document will include three resolutions of the general committees and a number of supplementary resolutions.
