Belarus reaffirms support for Cuba, aims to deepen partnership

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Cuba have reaffirmed their interest in expanding existing cooperation mechanisms and identifying new, effective ones across various fields. The matter was discussed during the visit of Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov to Cuba, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Political cooperation was discussed during a meeting with Cuba’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Gerardo Peñalver Portal and foreign ministry consultations with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo.
Yevgeny Shestakov reviewed key aspects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation during talks with Carlos Luis Jorge Méndez, Cuba’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Co-Chair of the Belarusian-Cuban Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation
The visit concluded with a meeting with Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, during which the parties focused closely on strategic cooperation between the two nations.
“The parties expressed readiness to step up contacts between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Cuba, and reaffirmed their interest in expanding existing cooperation mechanisms and identifying new, effective ones across various fields. They also outlined a plan for cultural events to mark the upcoming 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Cuba,” the MFA press service said, outlining the reached agreements.
The head of the Belarusian delegation reaffirmed unconditional support and solidarity for Cuba and the Cuban people.
