Belarus reaffirms commitment to combating anti-semitism in OSCE

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko took part in the Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region organized by the 2019 Slovak OSCE Chairmanship. The conference was held in Bratislava on 5-6 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaking at the plenary session the Belarusian diplomat told the attendees about Belarus’ efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. One of such efforts was the commissioning of the second stage of the Trostenets Memorial project. He emphasized the importance of learning the lessons of the Second World War and educating people, in particular, the youth, about the war, in order to prevent such tragic events in the future. “Oleg Kravchenko noted that Belarus is ready to continue working with the OSCE to combat anti-semitism,” the foreign ministry informed.

Taking part in the event were OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Minister of  Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajcak, Austrian Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Karin Kneissl, OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, official representatives of the OSCE member states, NGOs, national and religious communities.
 
During his visit to Slovakia, Oleg Kravchenko met with Lukas Parizek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The parties discussed cooperation with the OSCE and Belarus-European Union relations.

On the sidelines of the conference Oleg Kravchenko met with Rabbi Andrew Baker, Personal Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office on Combating Anti-Semitism, and Artemis Dralo, Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania that will assume OSCE Chairmanship after Slovakia, as well as with heads of delegations of a number of the OSCE member states.

Oleg Kravchenko also had a meeting with Alexander Duleba, Director of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, to discuss regional security and cooperation prospects between think tanks of Belarus and Slovakia.
