Belarus ready to host strategic nuclear weapons if necessary

Belarus ready to host strategic nuclear weapons if necessary

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Not only tactical but also strategic nuclear weapons will be deployed in Belarus if necessary. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his Address to the nation and the parliament on 31 March, BelTA has learned.

The head of state stressed that Belarus and Russia will exercise the necessary efforts and will use means at their disposal to ensure their sovereignty and independence. Thus, the Belarusian army has acquired a powerful missile system Iskander, which is unmatched in the world and can carry nuclear warheads. “Our refitted aircraft can also carry nuclear munitions. You heard what the Russian president said about the relevant infrastructure in Belarus’ territory. I’d like to clarify: the entire infrastructure has been created and is ready,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

He also mentioned he had instructed the army to immediately restore the sites where missile systems Topol with nuclear warheads used to be deployed. “It is a most complicated structure from the technical point of view. It does not mean that some Topol system can stop in a field somewhere and launch a missile if a button is pushed. All of them were tied to these sites. I’ve preserved all these sites. This is how this ‘dictatorship’ started and criticism of Lukashenko, who didn’t blow up the sites when told to. Except for one,” the president noted. And then again it was done upon the request of Russia President Boris Yeltsin, Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

“If we have to, Putin and I will bring strategic nuclear weapons here, too. And those foreign scum, who are now trying to blow us up from the inside and from the outside, have to understand it. We will stop at nothing in defense of our countries, our states, and our peoples,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

The president is convinced these measures will give pause to all the overseas hawks and their satellites. “We will make them reckon with our nation if they cannot understand another language,” he said.
