MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has extended greetings to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as the two countries mark 25 years of diplomatic relations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

According to the head of state, over the past 25 years Belarus and Syria have established strong ties of high trust and sincere friendship. “Minsk and Damascus share the view on the need to build a multipolar world based on respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, the right of each country to independently decide on the development path in accordance with the expectations of its people,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Belarus-Syria relations were tested in a special way during the war on terrorism in Syria. In the years of hard times, Belarus has always been there, trying to support your aspirations in the fight against this global evil. Today we can see that the war ends with the victory of the Syrian Arab Army, and the society united under your leadership is returning to normal life. We are ready to provide all-round assistance to Syria in peace-building and the reconstruction of the country,” the greetings say.

Bashar al-Assad also congratulated Alexander Lukashenko on the anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and Syria. He expressed readiness for further cooperation across all the issues for the sake of prosperity, development and progress of the countries, in the interests of the two friendly peoples and also for the world security and stability.

The Syrian president highly appreciated Belarus’ stance on the war in Syria, and also mentioned the support provided to the Syrian people in the fight against terrorism.
