Belarus ratifies agreement on cooperation in education with Poland

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus ratified the Belarusian-Polish agreement on cooperation in education on 29 November.

The agreement outlines major cooperation areas, specifies the number of participants and duration of exchanges, Belarusian Deputy Education Minister Viktor Yakzhik said. He noted that plans have been made to develop direct contacts between educational establishments and organize exchanges of undergraduate and graduate students and teaching staff. The agreement provides for the organization of advanced training and retraining courses in Belarusian and Polish philology and participation in joint educational events.

Igor Marzalyuk, Chairman of the Permanent Commission for Education, Culture and Science, noted that the agreement aims to promote an effective and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in education, and to protect the rights and interests of the Belarusian community in Poland and the Polish community in Belarus.

The House of Representatives reviewed a set of international documents on 29 November. For instance, they ratified the intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Turkmenistan on value-added tax exemption. Lilia Kiryak, a member of the Permanent Commission for Education, Culture and Science, noted that Turkmenistan is a strategic trade and economic partner for Belarus. The ratified agreement will help boost the competitiveness of the Belarusian goods imported to Turkmenistan by the Belarusian-Turkmen trading house and increase Belarus’ exports to this country.

All in all, the House of Representatives considered 11 draft laws. The MPs ratified international agreements with Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Guatemala, and the CIS member states.
