Belarus’ progress towards renewable energy highlighted at IRENA session in UAE

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates Andrei Luchenok took part in the events of the 13th session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in the UAE.

The head of the diplomatic mission spoke about achievements of the Republic of Belarus in promoting renewable energy. He also drew attention to the country’s contribution to fighting the global climate change.

The ongoing session of the IRENA Assembly is held under the overarching theme ‘World Energy Transition – The Global Stocktake’. The session started the journey to the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) that will be held in the UAE in late November - early December 2023.

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an international organization that seeks to support the use of all forms of renewable energy. IRENA facilitates access to information about renewable energy, including technical data. The organization was established in Bonn on 26 January 2009. At the founding conference, 75 states signed the IRENA charter. Abu Dhabi was chosen as the temporary headquarters of the organization. The charter came into force on 8 July 2010. IRENA’s membership comprises 167 countries, including Belarus, and the EU.
