Belarus’ Prime Minister to meet with UN Secretary General, foreign heads of government in New York

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and foreign heads of government in New York, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov at the press conference held on 17 September to highlight the participation of the Belarusian delegation in international events in New York.

Led by Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Belarusian delegation is expected to take part in the UN Climate Change Conference in September. The conference will take place before the regular session of the UN General Assembly begins.

Alexander Guryanov underlined the high level of the forthcoming event. According to the preliminary data of the UN secretariat, the summit will gather about 60 heads of state at the level of presidents and vice presidents. About 30 countries including Belarus will be represented by prime ministers.

Mikhail Myasnikovich is expected to deliver a speech and participate in the solemn events meant to highlight the beginning of the regular session of the United Nations General Assembly, BelTA has been told.

According to the Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister, it will also be possible to use the venue to hold a number of bilateral meetings between Mikhail Myasnikovich and foreign heads of government. However, Alexander Guryanov did not disclose any details since the relevant meetings were still being organized via diplomatic channels.

Alexander Guryanov also said that apart from the meeting with the UN Secretary General the Prime Minister of Belarus is expected to meet with the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program taking into account the UNDP’s active work in Belarus, including in projects relevant for the country’s social and economic development.
