MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – In the course of negotiations on natural gas deliveries with Russia Belarus presses for enabling equal conditions for commercial entities in the two countries, namely prices and tariffs, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Vadim Zakrevsky on 20 December.
Asked about prospects of setting up common markets for electricity and natural gas in the Eurasian Economic Union, the Deputy Energy Minister noted that the Eurasian Economic Union member states need to enable equal conditions for commercial entities in order to ensure the full effect of the common markets. “When we negotiate natural gas deliveries these days, we proceed from the belief that we need equal business operation terms instead of the low prices available in Russia per se,” stressed Vadim Zakrevsky.
“We need common approaches. It is particularly important for setting up the common electricity market. Natural gas is our primary energy resource. How can we compete in electricity if we don’t have competitive conditions on par with other Eurasian Economic Union member states?” wondered the official.
