ANKARA, 16 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has finished his official visit to Turkey. The aircraft with the Belarusian head of state on board has left the Ankara Esenboga Airport, BelTA has learned.

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on 16 April. The sides discussed the entire spectrum of important topics on the bilateral agenda while focusing on advancing trade and economic cooperation as well as manufacturing cooperation.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said after the talks: “Today’s meeting has begun a new level of mutual relations in all spheres. It is now important for the relevant ministers and the government to fulfill our agreements. I believe the current level of partnership allows setting even more ambitious goals.”

The sides agreed to raise Belarus-Turkey trade turnover to $1.5 billion within the next few years. In 2018 Belarus-Turkey trade totaled $984 million. The presidents believe the goal is attainable since the potential of Belarusian-Turkish relations is much higher than the current figures.

A business forum took place simultaneously with Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit. Representatives of Belarusian and Turkish companies discussed the implementation of current projects as well as new prospects of cooperation during the forum. Contracts worth $325 million were signed as a result of their meetings and negotiations.
