Belarus President: CIS potential is far from being exhausted

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – The potential of the Commonwealth of Independent States is far from being exhausted, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with heads of delegations partaking in the 16th meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions on 7 June, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian leader noted that negative trends have emerged recently. There is friction between the CIS member states, some of whom seek to distance themselves from certain commitments and act as observers, or probably even withdraw from the organization.

“Despite that the CIS in its current form is frequently criticized, the Belarusian side believes that the cooperation potential is far from being exhausted. We have everything needed to give a fresh impetus to the CIS, enhance its international standing, and most importantly, improve its image in the eyes of its own citizens,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
