Belarus President backs Foreign Ministry proposals to step up work with European partners

MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko heard out a report from Foreign Minister Mr Vladimir Makei on 29 January. The President backed the Foreign Ministry’s proposals to step up work with European partners, the press service of the head of state told BelTA.

The President drew attention to Belarus’ relations with partners in the West and the East. “What is going on along the East-West axis? I am more interested in western affairs but in the run-up to the Supreme State Council of the Union State there may be questions regarding the eastern direction concerning the Single Economic Space and the Russian Federation,” remarked the head of state.

The President was informed about the Foreign Ministry’s work plans for this year and the near future that had been drawn taking into account the guidelines set by the head of state.

Prospects of Belarus’ relations with the European Union and the United States of America were discussed in detail. Alexander Lukashenko okayed several proposals of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, which were aimed at further invigoration of the work with European partners.
