Belarus, Poland to intensify interparliamentary contacts

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Ways to strengthen interparliamentary cooperation were discussed at the meeting of Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich with Stanislaw Karczewski, the Marshal (Chairman) of the Senate of Poland, on 13 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

The parties welcomed an open dialogue during the talks of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation at the Senate, the Sejm and the government of Poland as well as at the meeting with the Polish president.

Belarus seeks to expand cooperation with Poland based on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and equality taking into consideration each other’s interests. The results of the talks and the approaches the parties agreed on will serve as a foundation for drafting a kind of cooperation roadmap. There are plans to discuss a draft agreement on interparliamentary cooperation in the near future.

Mikhail Myasnikovich told his Polish counterparts about the activities of the Polish community in Belarus. He emphasized that Belarus is a country of equal opportunities. At the same time, he said he would like the Belarusian minority to feel comfortable in Poland, too.

In turn, Stanislaw Karczewski underlined that Poland upholds the efforts of Belarusian MPs aimed at cementing positive trends in bilateral trade and expanding investment cooperation with Poland.
