Belarus plans to become key hub in new Silk Road project

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The participation of the Belarusian delegation led by Alexander Lukashenko in One Belt, One Road summit in Beijing helped clearly outline Belarus’ goal to become one of the key hubs of the new Silk Road in the Eurasian region, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the opening of the international conference 25 Years of Belarus’ Foreign Policy on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

According to the minister, the recent visit of the Belarusian president to China has shown that Belarus is developing strategic partnership with China which is one of the world’s most rapidly growing countries. Vladimir Makei commended Belarus’ participation in the One Belt, One Road project. He stressed that China President Xi Jinping named the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone as an important pillar of this project during his closing speech at the Beijing summit.

Essential matters of international relations were discussed at the highest level during the summit. The forum enjoyed a very tolerant atmosphere and was designed to discuss different points of view and opinions of various states on the new initiative. According to the minister, even European leaders stressed the forum’s tolerant and open atmosphere that helped to hold a dialogue.
