Belarus plans to apply for membership of Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme

МинздравMINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus plans to submit an application for admission to the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S), Yelena Alexandrova, Deputy Head of the Board on Pharmaceutical Inspection and Organization of Medicines Provision, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Inspection at the Belarusian Health Ministry told the media, BelTA has learned.

The admission to this reputable international organization will demonstrate the world-class expertise and knowledge of Belarus’ inspectors. This will improve the access of Belarusian medicines to foreign markets. Belarus’ results of inspections and national certificates will then be acknowledged by all the PIC/S member states. The number of cross-checks will drop, too.

Belarus submitted an application for the preliminary assessment of its readiness for full PIC/S membership in 2012. “It took us three years to undergo this assessment. It was carried out by foreign experts and specialists partaking in the PIC/S and in relevant EU bodies,” Yelena Alexandrova noted. As a result of the assessment, proposals have been voiced and a plan of corrective action has been formulated. Work is now underway to implement it.

The PIC/S is a reputable non-governmental organization comprising 49 member states. Cooperation with the PIC/S is the most effective way to get essential documents and EU’s recommendations regulating the production of medicines and their quality control.
