Belarus parliament delegation to participate in World Urban Forum in Azerbaijan

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – A Belarusian parliament delegation led by Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on 18-19 May at the invitation of the chairperson of the Milli Majlis (the parliament). During the visit on behalf of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko the delegation will take part in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held under the auspices of the United Nations Organization, the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus told BelTA.

During the official visit Igor Sergeyenko is scheduled to hold meetings with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Ali Asadov, and Chairwoman of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. The parties are expected to discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and identify promising projects for interstate partnership, including the promotion of inter-parliamentary ties.

The delegation includes Chairman of the Commission on Legislation and State Building of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Rusy, Deputy Chairman of the Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives Aleksandr Barsukov, and Architecture and Construction Minister Aleksandr Studnev.

The World Urban Forum has been held under the auspices of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) since 2002. It represents a unique platform for meaningful dialogue, the exchange of best practices, and the development of joint solutions to the problems that shape the look of the cities of the future. As many as 193 UN member states have been invited to participate in the 13th session of the forum titled as “Housing the world: Safe and resilient cities and communities”.

The key topics are ensuring affordable housing, implementing smart technologies in urban planning, creating inclusive and safe cities, reducing climate risks, and strengthening the role of the housing sector as a driving force of urban development.
