Belarus, Pakistan to sign documents on cooperation in information, communications

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan will sign documents on cooperation in the field of information and communications, representatives of the Belarusian Information Ministry told BelTA.

The governments of Belarus and Pakistan are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of information and communications. The National State Television and Radio Company of Belarus and Pakistan Television Corporation will sign an agreement on cooperation. The Belarusian news agency BelTA and the corporation Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) will sign a memorandum of understanding. The documents will contribute to the development of cooperation in the sphere of mass media, book printing, printing industry, distribution of printed mass media.

The source added that Belarusian Information Minister Liliya Ananich met with Irfan Siddiqui, the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s Special Representative for National Development (federal minister), in Islamabad on 27 May. Irfan Siddiqui underlined the importance of active information cooperation and noted that new level of mutual relations between the countries requires active humanitarian contacts. Cooperation in the field of information and communications will be concrete and will contribute to mutual understanding between the countries.

Apart from that, Belarusian Information Minister Liliya Ananich met with top executives of Pakistan Television Corporation. During the meeting the sides discussed topical aspects of cooperation in television broadcasting. The sides stressed the mutual interest in exchanging news programs and culturological ones. The Pakistani side said they were ready to help promote the TV channel Belarus 24 in Pakistan.

The Belarusian Information Minister also visited the National Library of Pakistan and made a speech at the seminar on the development of Belarus-Pakistan multilateral cooperation. She presented the photo album Republic of Belarus as a gift to the National Library of Pakistan. The initiative of the Belarusian side to open a Belarusian information and culture center in the Library was approved of by the Pakistani side, representatives of the Belarusian Information Ministry noted.

The work of the Belarusian delegation is covered well by Pakistani mass media, BelTA has been told.
