Belarus, Pakistan mull over joint ventures in agriculture

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarus-Pakistan cooperation in agriculture was on the agenda of the meeting between Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Ermolovich and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Bosan, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

“The parties discussed the ways of promoting the bilateral cooperation in agriculture, including those via setting up joint ventures to produce and process meat, milk and vegetable products,” stated the source.

The Belarusian ambassador invited the Pakistani minister to visit the international agricultural expo Belagro 2018 due in Minsk on 5-9 June.

During a visit of a Pakistan delegation it is planned to hold the second Belarus-Pakistan agricultural forum (the first one was held in Islamabad in April 2017) and the fifth meeting of the joint Belarus-Pakistan working group on agriculture. The parties also considered signing the road map of Belarus-Pakistan bilateral cooperation in agriculture and food supplies during the Minsk events. The draft of the document is currently undergoing the last stage of the inter-ministerial review procedures.

The parties also discussed the supplies of the Belarusian agricultural equipment, especially harvesters and tractors, to Pakistan. Next week the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will host the field tests and demonstration of Gomselmash harvesters with the company’s professionals participating in the event. Based on the results of the testing, Pakistan will make a decision on the purchase of the first batch of Belarusian harvesters.
