MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, held a number of meetings at the OSCE Secretariat’s headquarters in Vienna to discuss gender issues, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Austria.

The embassy said that a Belarusian delegation of MPs, representatives of ministries and other government agencies, is currently in Vienna on a visit to exchange experience in gender issues from 22 to 25 November. The visit has been organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) as part of a joint gender project. The Belarusian delegation is studying practices for the application of a gender approach in law-making and budgeting.

Members of the delegation already held meetings with the Delegations of Austria, Finland and Sweden to the OSCE, and also with representatives of the OSCE Secretariat and the OSCE/ODIHR. The parties exchanged opinions on ways to ensure gender equality at the national and international level. Special attention was paid to the importance of law-making in this field.
