Belarus, Oman in talks over nonstop flights, visa matters

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Oman are discussing direct flights between the two countries and simplified visa rules for Belarusian nationals. These matters were in focus of the meeting of Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt with concurrent accreditation to Oman Sergei Rachkov with Minister of Tourism of Oman Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mahrizi. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Food and Hospitality Oman international trade exhibition that is taking place in Muscat on 15-17 October, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.

“The Belarusian pavilion was visited by the Oman minister of tourism. Ambassador Sergei Rachkov had a brief conversation with Minister of Tourism Ahmed bin Nasser Al Mahrizi to discuss a possibility to launch nonstop flights between the two countries and to simplify visa procedures for Belarusian tourists visiting the Sultanate of Oman,” the embassy noted.

A Belarus-Oman business forum was arranged by the chambers of commerce and industry of Belarus and Oman. During this forum, representatives of Belarusian companies held talks with Oman food importers. The Belarusian delegation also visited local food companies and production facilities. The talks resulted in specific agreements to supply Belarusian foodstuffs.

Sergei Rachkov met with Dr. Mohammed bin Awadh Al Hassan, Acting Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, who is in charge of contacts with Belarus at the Foreign Ministry. The parties discussed ways to invigorate cooperation in trade, economy and investment and to launch supplies of foodstuffs and non-food products to Oman.

Taking part in the expo are six Belarusian enterprises: Babushkina Krynka, Soligorsk Poultry Factory, Minsk Margarine Plant, Lidapischekontsentraty, Yeast Factory and Primemilk. They produce milk powder, margarine, fats and oils, mayonnaise, sauces, yeast, food concentrates, and eggs.

Apart from Belarus, national pavilions were presented by India, Iran, China, Malaysia, Thailand and South Africa.

In 2017 Belarus-Oman trade was estimated at $3.95 million, with Belarusian export standing at $3.5 million. Belarus’ exports to Oman include dairy products, potash fertilizers, liquid crystal devices, lasers, products of the woodworking industry, furniture. Three Belarus-Oman joint ventures are registered in Belarus.
