Belarus, Novosibirsk Oblast discuss cooperation prospects

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Cooperation with Novosibirsk Oblast of Russia is of special importance to Belarus, Belkoopsoyuz Chairman of the Board, co-chair of the Belarus-Novosibirsk Oblast business cooperation council Valery Ivanov said at the fourth session of the council on 23 January, BelTA has learned.

“Cooperation with Novosibirsk Oblast of Russia is of special importance to Belarus, as this Russian region is an important industrial, agricultural, scientific and transportation hub, and has substantial deposits of raw materials. Belarus and Novosibirsk Oblast have a long history of cooperation, including in manufacturing, power engineering, science and education. We hope that our great relations and ideas will be translated into specific projects,” Valery Ivanov said.

The participants of the council discussed promising cooperation avenues and joint projects in traditional areas.

“Belarusian companies would like to team up with their Russian partners to take part in the Novosibirsk Oblast farm machinery industry development program if the Russian counterparts are also interested in it. Our meat and dairy factories can build an effective framework of cooperation with Novosibirsk retailers and supply meat and dairy products,” Valery Ivanov said.

Novosibirsk Oblast Governor Andrei Travnikov also mentioned the development of cooperation in the manufacturing industry, mutual supplies of equipment and machinery, and expressed the willingness to promote interaction in these and other areas.

The Belarusian light industry also seeks to expand presence in the region. Valery Ivanov suggested exploring options for cooperation, noting that Belarusian light industry enterprises have implemented upgrade projects, including at Orsha Linen Mill.

The governor emphasized the importance of tightening ties in science. Cooperation in nuclear industry has become a new trend in relations between Minsk and Novosibirsk in view of the construction of the nuclear power plant in Belarus.

During the meeting the council members discussed in detail various aspects of interaction in technology and innovation, ways of tapping into the potential of cooperation between manufacturing companies and business, bolstering ties in education and youth policy, agriculture, culture and public diplomacy, cooperation of sister-cities.
