Belarus-New Zealand cooperation prospects discussed at ministerial consultations

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The first series of consultations between the Foreign Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand took place in Wellington, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov. Valentin Rybakov and Deputy Secretary at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Bede Corry emphasized the importance of establishing direct contacts between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries and exchanged opinions on the ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The consultations discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest for Belarus and New Zealand. The participants of the meeting talked over a number of matters related to bilateral relations and the international agenda. The parties agreed to continue regular meetings between representatives of the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

While in Wellington, Valentin Rybakov met with former Prime Minister of New Zealand, the country’s special representative in the campaign to promote New Zealand's candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council Jim Bolger.

The sides discussed the state of relations between Belarus and New Zealand, talked over cooperation prospects between the two countries and the issues of the international agenda.
