Belarus mulls over expanding its diplomatic presence in Sweden in 2017

MINSK, 29 November (BelTA) – Belarus is considering the possibility of expanding its diplomatic presence in Sweden in 2017, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna told reporters on 29 November.

Belarus is currently represented at the level of Charge d’Affaires ad Interim in Sweden. Belarusian Ambassador will not be appointed to the Scandinavian country by the end of 2016 as a considerable number of issues, including organizational ones, need to be settled. It is possible that the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Sweden will be expanded in 2017, Alena Kupchyna said.

“I hope that we will have a full-fledged Embassy of Belarus in Sweden, with an ambassador, if such a decision is adopted, and several diplomats,” she noted.

Describing the relations between Belarus and the EU, the deputy minister noted that the relations continue to improve. “Belarus is very interested in this. We believe that so is the EU,” Alena Kupchyna said.
