MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) - Members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus participated in an online meeting with representatives of the Communist Party of Spain, BelTA has learned.

The event highlighted the social and political situation in Belarus.

“The social and political situation in Belarus has stabilized. State and law enforcement agencies, the country's system of governance, the social sector - everything works in a standard mode,” said MP of the House of Representatives Sergei Klishevich.

Spanish representatives were interested in the role the media and social networks played in the protests. “Social networks that are not under national jurisdiction are always used for similar operations. In our case, it was Telegram. It was the first time it was used for political purposes here. Previously, it was mainly used to sell drugs and distribute child pornography, as the network algorithms were considered secure. It was with the help of this messenger that street protests, riot plans and traffic routes were coordinated,” said MP of the House of Representatives Natalya Golub.

According to Sergei Klishevich, many states have faced such a situation. “There is a certain critical period, about a month, when social networks act as the main tool of destabilization. Working with young people through social networks is one of the stages of their preparation for destructive actions. Social networks here operate in parallel with the media, which are controlled by the customers of these actions. In our case, these are the United States and the EU. That is why it is not always possible to find the perpetrators, those who call for such actions, and to eliminate such a channel. I think there is a need for everyone to get together and, perhaps, at the UN level discuss how to counteract this illegal activity in social networks today,” the MP stated.

In order to establish a dialogue, as well as to form an objective perception of Belarus after the presidential election, the first meeting between representatives of the Communist Party of Spain and MPs of the House of Representatives was organized online on 13 February 2021. During the meeting it was agreed to continue the dialogue.

The recent online meeting was held with the support of the Belarusian Embassy in Spain.
