Belarus, Moldova to bolster inter-parliamentary ties

CHISINAU, 16 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Moldova will step up inter-parliamentary cooperation, including within the framework of the parliamentary friendship groups. The relevant agreement was reached during a meeting between Ambassador of Belarus to Moldova Sergei Chichuk and Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) parliamentary faction, Co-Chairman of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (the Euronest PA) Marian Lupu and head of the Moldovan parliamentary friendship group with Belarus, PDM honorary president Dumitru Diacov, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Chichuk, the new Belarusian parliament will set up a working group on cooperation with Moldova’s parliament.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged opinions on the development of cooperation between the National Assembly of Belarus and the Parliament of Moldova. The parties gave a strong approval of the current level of interstate cooperation and expressed their willingness to expand Belarus-Moldova inter-parliamentary cooperation. The parties also discussed the ways of intensifying the contacts between Belarusian and Moldovan MPs, exchanging visits, including the parliament speakers.

According to the Parliament of Moldova, during the meeting Belarus’ Ambassador and the Moldovan MPs also discussed the prospects of more active Belarusian participation in the work of the Euronest PA. The parties reached an agreement to discuss the approach to this process soon.
