Belarus’ MFA tells about preparations for Lukashenko’s visit to Munich for MSC

Belarus’ MFA tells about preparations for Lukashenko’s visit to Munich for MSC

MINSK, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian side was making preparations for the visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to Munich which is hosting the Munich Security Conference (MSC). However, due to the schedule overlaps and the need to address the important issues on the Belarusian-Russian agenda, the visit to Munich did not seem possible, Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told BelTA.

“Indeed, the Belarusian president was invited to attend the 55th Munich Security Conference which is taking place on 15-17 February this year. The organizers of the conference invited the head of state to take part in the panel discussion of the East-West relations on 16 February together with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger,” the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In his words, the Belarusian side was making preparations for the visit of the Belarusian head of state to Munich. “However, a certain time clash emerged at the very last moment. Because of the need to solve important issues of the Belarusian-Russian relations during the talks with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Sochi the participation in the Munich Conference at the level of the President of the Republic of Belarus was impossible this time,” Anatoly Glaz said.

He said that Belarus’ Ambassador to Germany Denis Sidorenko represents Belarus at the 55th Munich Security Conference. Partaking in the event will also be Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik.

“We are grateful to the organizers of the Munich Security Conference and its Chairman Wolfgang Ischinger for the invitation to the Belarus president and for the valuable opportunity to take part in this landmark international security event at the highest level. We hope to continue efficient and productive interaction with the high-ranking representatives of the Munich Conference,” the press secretary said.
