MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) - Belarus may consider opening new foreign offices in the cities of China, Vietnam, India and Zimbabwe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the meeting with the Belarusian head of state to discuss the optimization of the network of Belarusian foreign missions on 6 April, BelTA has learned.

“We will have a look at the ways to streamline the activity of some foreign institutions. For example, if we take Vietnam and India, their financial and economic centers are at least 1,500km away from the capitals of these countries - Ho Chi Minh and Mumbai. Major financial and industrial centers are located there, so it might be worthwhile for the Belarusian side to have a diplomatic presence there. It makes sense, so to speak, to set up our consulates there. As for Hong Kong, we do not have offices there, but it is also a very promising region and market,” the minister said. He also mentioned Zimbabwe as a promising market.

Vladimir Makei said that all the changes would take place in accordance with the available funding and within the existing number of foreign institutions. “We are looking for appropriate reserves. We already have specific proposals based on the criteria mentioned by the president, which are export and foreign economic activity,” the minister added.
