Belarus looks forward to continued mutually beneficial cooperation with UNESCO

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus actively participates in most UNESCO large projects and programs and looks forward to continued mutually beneficial cooperation and mutually beneficial dialogue on all tracks, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed an extended session of the National Commission for UNESCO timed to the 65th anniversary of Belarus’ membership in this organization on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

The minister stressed that Belarus has a good potential to expand its participation in UNESCO programs such as the International Hydrological Programme and the Global Geoparks Network (GGN). “Given the leading role of UNESCO in the development of international approaches to addressing the problems associated with the development of the information society and information security in the humanitarian field, we need to increase our participation in such intergovernmental programmes as the Information for All Programme (IFAP), the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), and the Memory of the World Programme,” Vladimir Makei said.

He noted the importance of involving the youth in promoting UNESCO ideals. The National Commission supports the UNESCO associated schools, UNESCO chairs, UNESCO Clubs movement. “The youth is our future, and teaching UNESCO values is the best preparation for life in the modern world,” the minister believes.

Vladimir Makei thanked UNESCO for qualified assistance in joint projects. All in all,more than 200 joint projects have been carried out, he added.
