Belarus lays out vision for its CSTO Presidency in Yerevan

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei laid out Belarus’ vision for its forthcoming Presidency in the CSTO when speaking at a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO member states in Yerevan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Emphasis will be placed on the coordination of joint efforts of the member states in international organizations, crisis response capacity-building and the development of the CSTO peacekeeping capacities, strengthening the information efforts in the fight against terrorism,” the ministry informed.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the development of cooperation between the CSTO member states, including in the area of combating international terrorism, and a number of other pressing issues. They also discussed the agenda for the forthcoming meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council.

Participants in the meeting approved several documents for harmonization of the collective security strategy for the period up to 2025, intensification of the fight against terrorism and extremism, strengthening of the military and military-technical cooperation, building-up of joint efforts in border security, training of military personnel, and also strengthening of emergency response and peacekeeping missions.
