MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko made a working visit to Latvia to attend the high-level meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, BelTA has learned.
In 2009 Belarus was granted the observer status in the Council of Baltic Sea States. Oleg Kravchenko addressed the high-level meeting and spoke about the matching priorities, Belarus’ contribution to the development of regional cooperation to solve common problems, and suggested a number of mutually beneficial areas of cooperation. The foreign ministers of Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden, and Russia's deputy foreign minister contributed to the discussion on the cooperation between the council and Belarus.
On the sidelines of the meeting Oleg Kravchenko held a meeting with Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid to discuss the issues of the Belarusian-European cooperation.
The political consultations between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Latvia attended by Oleg Kravchenko and State Secretary of the Latvian Foreign Ministry Andris Pelss discussed a wide range of issues of the Belarusian-Latvian cooperation in political, trade, economic, humanitarian and other areas, Belarus-EU relations through, the Eastern Partnership, cooperation in international organizations.
Oleg Kravchenko also met with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Rihards Kols to discuss the bilateral cooperation, the situation in the region and the possibilities of expanding interaction.
