Belarus, Latvia sign cultural cooperation program for 2016-2018

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – The Culture Ministry of Belarus and the Culture Ministry of Latvia signed a cooperation program for 2016-2018 at the National Library of Belarus on 10 June. The document was signed by Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov and Latvia’s Culture Minister Dace Melbarde, BelTA has learned.

The parties will promote expansion and establishment of direct contacts between musical establishments, concert organizations, art unions, and also the exchange of performers, music bands and specialists.

Cooperation will be encouraged, including between the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater and the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, between the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Belarus and the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, between professional theaters, museums, national and public libraries of the two countries.

The ministries are also determined to cooperate in cinematography and promote the development of cooperation in art education, support direct contacts between institutions of higher education and vocational training in culture and art.

According to Boris Svetlov, the two countries have always maintained cultural interaction, implemented different projects in all the activities of the sector. “We held talks and outline additional areas for developing our cultural relations, touched upon one of the main issues, which is an exchange of collectives for the development of song and choir culture of the two countries,” he said.

Dace Melbarde, for her part, noted that cultural specialists of Belarus and Latvia hold regular meetings, exchange experience, suggest creative ideas and projects.
