Belarus, Latvia called to focus on trade, cross-border cooperation

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – At the meeting with Latvian MPs on 17 June Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vitaly Busko called for efforts to increase trade and develop cross-border cooperation, BelTA has learned.

According to Vitaly Busko, the trade with Latvia (about $600 million) has recently decreased. The best recorded trade between the two countries reached $3 billion. The MP noted that it has its logical explanation related to the contracted shipment of oil products via the Latvian ports. However, he expressed the need for further development of trade and economic relations. He also called for creating of more favorable conditions for businessmen and companies of the two countries at the legislative level.

Vitaly Busko noted that Belarus and Latvia have been developing cross-border cooperation. This theme is a regular issue for discussion at the meetings between MPs that make their contribution to the development of this important area.

For his part, Chairman of the Latvian parliamentary group on cooperation with the National Assembly of Belarus Arturs Rubiks supported the opinion on the need for further development of cross-border cooperation. He believes that Belarus could use more actively the Latvian railways and ports for the transportation of its cargoes.
