Belarus, Kyrgyzstan seek to intensify inter-parliamentary contacts
MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are interested in stepping up inter-parliamentary cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus Ermek Ibraimov said as he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko, BelTA has learned.
“The 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is our common milestone. In addition to all types of cooperation between our countries, from the point of view of Kyrgyzstan, inter-parliamentary cooperation is one of the most important areas,” Ermek Ibraimov said.
The parties are set to discuss the state and prospects of the Belarus-Kyrgyzstan inter-parliamentary contacts, including the official visit to Belarus of the speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan scheduled for 2023, as well as other topical issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and the humanitarian field.
“We are consistently working to finalize the agreement on inter-parliamentary cooperation between our countries. We are determined to sign this document,” the ambassador noted. “As I have already mentioned, cooperation between parliaments is one of the main, fundamental areas of cooperation for us,” the diplomat said.
Ermek Ibraimov is sure that the two countries need to keep expanding cooperation in absolutely all areas. “First of all, this pertains to trade and economy. We are happy about the recent dynamics of bilateral trade,” he added. “Belarusian products are well known in Kyrgyzstan and enjoy a good reputation there, they have found their niche. Kyrgyzstan’s products were non-existent on the Belarusian market for a long time. We are rectifying the situation now; some types of agricultural products are appearing on the Belarusian market. This year Kyrgyzstan’s textile products became available in Belarus. This is one of the industries in which Kyrgyzstan is traditionally strong. Most importantly, we spoke with Belarusian entrepreneurs regarding the possibility of increasing the deliveries. It was nice to hear positive feedback for these products from the Belarusian business community,” the ambassador noted.
“We are indeed among the few states that are part of all integration associations in the post-Soviet space,” the diplomat emphasized. “We support the decision of Belarus to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It is encouraging to see fruitful cooperation between our countries on international platforms,” he added.
