Belarus, Iraq plan to expand cooperation in healthcare

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Iraq plan to promote cooperation in healthcare, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Turkey and concurrently to Iraq Andrei Savinykh told the media as he attended a seminar with heads of Belarus’ diplomatic missions and consulates held in Minsk on 10 July, BelTA has learned.

According to the ambassador, healthcare may become one of the promising avenues of the Belarusian-Iraqi cooperation. “The sides reached an agreement to supply Belarusian medicines to Iraq following the visit of the Belarusian healthcare minister to Iraq. They also agreed that some Iraqi patients will come to Belarus to undergo medical treatment,” Andrei Savinykh pointed out.

The sides are also considering the possibility of providing assistance by Belarus to Iraq in developing hospitals in the country’s favorable areas. “The matter is about the Belarusian doctors coming to Iraq to perform various kinds of surgeries there. This is a solid foundation for Belarus-Iraq relations,” the ambassador added.

Belarus’ medical universities are also ready to enroll Iraqi students.

In general, interaction in training healthcare specialists can become a priority in Belarus-Iraq partnership, the ambassador summarized.
