Belarus, Iran show interest in inter-parliamentary cooperation

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko met with Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Iran on 31 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The parties emphasized that this was their second meeting over the past month and such intensity of contacts facilitates regular reconciliation of positions in a dynamically changing environment. The previous meeting between Igor Sergeyenko and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf took place on the sidelines of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg on 11 July 2024.

The parties praised similar approaches of Belarus and Iran to the issue of building a new architecture of international relations, the need to maximize the potential of all international structures, including the BRICS and the SCO, where the member states fully realize the inalienable right of peoples to choose an independent path of development, to dialogue on the principles of mutual respect, to peace and security. The parties discussed the prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation in a number of priority areas for the two countries. They also reaffirmed their readiness to continue constructive work on the development of trade and economic cooperation as well as the bilateral legal framework.
