MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – The Investigative Committee of Belarus and the FBI will work together in the course of investigating crimes against cybersecurity, BelTA has learned.

An FBI delegation visited the Investigative Committee of Belarus the other day in line with previously reached agreements. The sides discussed matters of international cooperation in counteracting new challenges and threats in the information space.

The sides discussed cooperation in investigating a number of criminal cases the Investigative Committee’s cybersecurity and intellectual property crimes division is dealing with. The sides exchanged opinions about the acquisition of additional proofs in one of the cases involving malware usage and money thefts to the tune of over $1.3 million from accounts of American companies.

The Investigative Committee of Belarus and the FBI will work together to ascertain the identity of all members of the international gang. Some of them are already serving their sentences in Belarus.

During the visit the Belarusian side also provided information in response to a legal aid request submitted by the relevant U.S. justice institution. The information will allow American colleagues to continue working to find out circumstances of this cybercrime and other ones.

The visit is an example of effective and constructive cooperation between Belarusian and U.S. law enforcement agencies within the framework of the memorandum of understanding that Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Noskevich and FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate signed in Washington in January 2018.
