Belarus’ Investigative Committee, FBI to cooperate in specialist training

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – The Investigative Committee of Belarus and the FBI of the United States will cooperate in the personnel training, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Noskevich said in an interview to the ONT TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

A delegation of the Investigative Committee of Belarus led by Ivan Noskevich paid a visit to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. “I should say that the training system in the FBI Academy is in fact a model for the agencies of the kind. Since the Investigative Committee of Belarus as a relatively young agency has no training institution of its own, we adopt the best practices with a view to implementing the similar idea in our country. Besides, our American counterparts are ready to welcome our attendees free of charge. The relevant agreement was reached at the level of the FBI leadership. I think we will develop concrete proposals on such students in the near future,” said Ivan Noskevich.

In his words, Belarusian investigators have already undergone short courses in the FBI Training Center in Pittsburg. “The FBI Academy is a full-fledged training process and it means a lot to us. We are grateful to our American partners for the proposal,” the chairman of the Investigative Committee said.

During the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the United States the Investigative Committee of Belarus and the FBI signed a memorandum of understanding. In the document the sides emphasized mutual interest in signing an agreement on legal assistance in criminal cases. “I believe that there are no obstacles to sign such an agreement, and I hope it will be signed in the near future,” Ivan Noskevich noted.

He also spoke about the cooperation between the Investigative Committee of Belarus and the FBI in combating cybercrime. In November 2017 the Investigative Committee and the FBI conducted a successful operation with the participation of the police against the international cybercrime organization Andromeda. “This is not the only example of our joint work. We have provided our counterparts from the FBI with the latest information on other criminal cases as well. They expressed sincere interest in further cooperation,” the chairman of the Investigative Committee said.
