Belarus’ Investigative Committee, FBI sign memorandum of understanding

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ Investigative Committee has signed a memorandum of understanding with the FBI, BelTA learned from the Investigative Committee.

The delegation of the Belarusian Investigative Committee led by its chairman Ivan Noskevich visited the FBI Headquarters in Washington during the working visit to the USA on 30 January. They had a number of meetings with the representatives of the Bureau. “The sides discussed such issues as combating organized crime, investigation of violent crimes, fight against corruption and violations in the IT sector. Besides, international cooperation was discussed with the representative of the Office of the General Counsel,” BelTA learned from the Investigative Committee.

On 30 January, there was a working meeting between Chairman of the Investigative Committee Ivan Noskevich and Executive Assistant Director Paul Abbate. He is the cheif of th eCriminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch, one of the six major divisions of the Bureau. “The memorandum of understanding was signed as a result of the meeting of Ivan Noskevich and Paul Abbate. In the document the sides emphasized mutual interest in signing an agreement on legal assistance in criminal cases,” the representative of the committee said.

The official visit of the delegation of the Investigative Committee will last till 31 January when the delegation is expected to visit the FBI Academy which is the FBI’s law enforcement training and research center located near the town of Quantico in Stafford County, Virginia.

The interaction between the Belarusian Investigative Committee and the FBI is productive and mutually beneficial. The sides efficiently cooperate during international special operations to detect ad prevent crimes especially in the IT sector. The current state of affairs shows that there are good prospects for the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.
