MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in promoting cooperation with the Eurasian Patent Organization, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats said as he met with President of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) Grigory Ivliev in Minsk on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

“We would like to expand our cooperation in intellectual property. Perhaps we need to revise or think over some things in order to set this cooperation on a path of strong economic development,” Leonid Zayats noted.

According to him, cooperation in the field of intellectual property is especially close between Belarus and Russia. Plans are in place to advance these ties further.

Grigory Ivliev said that integration in the field of intellectual property in the Eurasian Economic Union is a particularly relevant topic now. "Belarus has adopted the policy documents in this field, which is fit for a country with a well-developed economy and scientific and technological capabilities," he noted.

These days Belarus is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the national intellectual property system. The forum "Intellectual Property in Belarus. NCIP - 30 years" is running in Minsk.

The National Center for Intellectual Property ensures protection of rights to inventions, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, plant varieties, works of science, literature and art, etc. NCIP performs the functions of a patent authority and is subordinate to the State Committee on Science and Technology.
