MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Indonesia are discussing cooperation in the defense industry, Adang Sudrajat, Chairman of the Indonesia-Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group of the House of Representatives of the People's Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia, told reporters on 17 September, BelTA has learned.

Adang Sudrajat noted that Indonesia wants to get a closer look at the new products of Belarus’ defense industry. “It will be very interesting for us to hear out proposals of the Belarusian side. Belarus is promoting nuclear energy very well. We hope to touch upon this matter, too,” he said.

Cooperation in the defense industry was discussed at the meeting with Boleslav Pirshtuk, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. The parties noted that after the Belarus-Indonesia intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the defense industry comes into force, a Belarus-Indonesia committee on cooperation in the defense industry will be formed.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to ramp up interparliamentary contacts and increase the bilateral trade.

The Indonesian parliamentary delegation will stay in Belarus till 20 September. Apart from the talks at the House of Representatives, the Indonesian delegation is set to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Indonesian MPs will tour the Minsk Wheeled Tractor Plant, BelAZ and MAZ automakers to get familiar with the product line-ups and to hold talks.
