Belarus in favor of strengthening economic dimension in CEI

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus urges to strengthen the economic dimension in the Central European Initiative (CEI), Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko said as he took part in the annual meeting of the CEI Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Trieste, Italy, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Oleg Kravchenko commended the role of the CEI as an efficient instrument to enhance cooperation in the region and laid out Belarus’ vision of promising areas of the CEI further development in the context of its 30th anniversary.

Oleg Kravchenko stressed the importance to strengthen the CEI economic dimension and suggested the CEI bolster support for small and medium-sized businesses, youth entrepreneurship, and startups in promising fields.

“The CEI could coordinate exchange of multilateral business missions between the EU member states and non-EU countries. Why don’t we consider setting up a regional financial institution of the CEI to encourage investment?” he said.

Oleg Kravchenko also pointed out that the organization may help establish relations between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. He suggested attracting investment from China and other third countries to finance the CEI projects.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Oleg Kravchenko met with several representatives of foreign countries to discuss important issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.
