MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - Belarus supports the development of dialogue and interaction between the European Union and Eurasian Economic Union with a view to developing a common economic space from Lisbon to Vladivostok, reads the article “Belarus: at the Crossroads Between East and West” penned by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Germany Denis Sidorenko for the German Business & Diplomacy magazine, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat stressed that Belarus has consistently advocated the reduction of tension in the region and the launch of a strategic inclusive dialogue on European security.

“Difficult history and geography have left their footprint on the international positioning of Belarus, Belarusians’ attitude to freedom and peace. The principle of good-neighborliness has become the cornerstone of the foreign policy doctrine. Belarus is also fully committed to its international obligations,” the Ambassador said.

“The country’s strategic partner is the Russian Federation, with which Belarus maintains close allied relations. The country also develops diverse interaction with the European Union, with which Belarus shares 1200km of the border. The cooperation with China has been increasingly important, including in the framework of the Chinese Belt and Road initiative,” the diplomat said.

In the context of the Ukrainian crisis Belarus has hosted the negotiations to find a peaceful solution. “The Minsk agreement has become the roadmap having no alternative. Minsk continues to host regularly representatives of the Normandy Four, the trilateral contact group under the auspices of the OSCE,” the Ambassador noted.
