Belarus, Hungary seek to expand cooperation in healthcare

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Hungary are mutually interested in expanding cooperation in healthcare, humanitarian affairs, regional ties and other promising areas of cooperation. The Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation held a videoconference meeting to discuss these matters, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On behalf of Belarus the meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko and on behalf of Hungary – by Tamas Varga, State Secretary from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The parties discussed topical issues of mutual trade, cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, transport, science, education and tourism. There is a mutual interest in expanding cooperation in the field of healthcare, humanitarian activities, regional ties and other promising areas of cooperation, the ministry said.

In January-March the Belarus-Hungary trade amounted to $51 million (94.2% compared to the same period of 2019). Belarus’ merchandise exports increased by 3.6% year-on-year to $23.8 million while imports decreased by 12.7% to $27.1 million. In 2019, the trade with Hungary rose by 1.3 times and reached $253.7 million, with exports totaling $130.6 million (up by 1.67 times), imports - $123 million (up by 5.8%).
