MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) – The prospects of cooperation in nuclear energy between the two countries were discussed by Belarus’ Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich and Hungarian Ambassador to Belarus Zsolt Csutora during a meeting in Minsk on 24 June, BelTA learned from the Telegram channel of the Energy Ministry.

The parties reviewed the implementation of the memorandum of cooperation signed in Minsk on 5 June 2020 between the Energy Ministry of Belarus and the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary. In particular, the parties discussed the possibility of involving Belarusian organizations in the construction of the infrastructure of the Paks II nuclear power plant in Hungary. The parties also agreed on cooperation in training of personnel for the nuclear power plant. Appropriate training and exchange programs will be drawn up soon. The possibilities of partnership in nuclear waste management have been considered too.

It is planned that by the end of the year a Hungarian delegation will visit Belarus to work out the cooperation in pursuance of the agreements. “During this visit, we are ready to work out practical solutions across the areas laid down in the memorandum,” Viktor Karankevich said.

Ambassador Zsolt Csutora called the cooperation between the two countries in nuclear energy as important and expressed interest in mutually beneficial cooperation. The ambassador also said that the Hungarian town of Gerjen and the Belarusian Ostrovets plan to sign a twinning agreement. “This will certainly help strengthen the cooperation of our countries,” he noted.
