Belarus’ honorary consul to operate in Poland’s Olsztyn

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – An official ceremony to inaugurate Jan Szynaka as Honorary Consul of Belarus in Olsztyn took place in the embassy in Warsaw on 30 July, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Poland.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Extraordinary of Belarus to Poland Vladimir Chushev handed over the State Flag of Belarus, a consular patent and a stamp to the honorary consul. Director of the Eastern Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland Jan Hofmokl presented a consular exequatur signed by the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs (a document certifying the consul's recognition by the host country).

Jan Szynaka is a famous Polish businessman, head and owner of Szynaka Meble, one of the largest Polish investors in Belarus. He will operate in the consular district that includes the voivodships of Warmia-Mazuria, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Pomorskie provinces.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local authorities and Belarusian companies in Poland.
 
“The practice of establishing Belarusian honorary consulates in Poland, which began in 2019 with the appointment of Marek Rasinski as Honorary Consul of Belarus in Katowice, has been continued,” said representatives of the embassy.
In 2019 the Belarusian-Polish trade amounted to $2,621 million against $2,531.1 million in 2018 (up 3.6%). The Belarusian exports to Poland reached $1,291.6 million, the imports from Poland - $1,329.5 million.

In January-May 2020, the trade between Belarus and Poland totaled $906.7 million, the Belarusian exports to Poland - $435.1 million and imports - $471.6 million. Among Belarus’ trade and economic partners Poland ranks fourth in terms of trade, third in terms of exports and fifth in terms of imports.

Woodworking products in Belarusian exports account for about 29.4% of the total, chemical and petrochemical products - 28.6%, complex engineering products - 12.7%, metal products - 9.5%, agro-industrial products - 5.3%, building materials - 4%, clothes and textiles – 1.8%.

In 2019, the trade in services between Belarus and Poland made up $456.8 million (96.7% to 2018). Exports of services increased by 1.1% to $255.8 million,  the imports decreased by 8.3% to $201 million.

Last year, Poland ranked fourth in terms of investment in the economy of Belarus (behind Russia, the UK and Cyprus) with the total of $440.8 million.

At present in Poland there are 16 entities of the commodity distribution network, representations, dealers and importers of Belarusian companies.
