Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry, WHO/Europe sign two-year cooperation plan

Belarus’ Healthcare Ministry, WHO/Europe sign two-year cooperation plan

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) - A cooperation plan for 2022-2023 between the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus and the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) was signed in Minsk on 14 October, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed by Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich and WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge.

During the meeting at the Healthcare Ministry, which preceded the signing of the document, Dmitry Pinevich told the WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge about the budget allocation for the vaccination program and treatment of diseases. “Like any state healthcare system, we adhere to high social standards. They are approved at the state level and are strictly enforced and controlled by the authorities every year. In particular, we have standards for the provision of doctors, including general practitioners,” the minister said.

In his words, Belarus is shifting to the general practitioner model in primary care. This does not apply to pediatrics, however. According to Dmitry Pinevich, a rigid multilevel system of perinatal care helped the country reach the figures which are typical for the countries with a much higher level of income per capita.

The minister also mentioned other planned innovations. Plans are in place to introduce residency and expand the possibilities of simulation training. The most powerful simulation center at BelMAPO will be put into operation in 2022.

The parties also discussed the treatment of tuberculosis, orphan and other diseases, as well as cooperation with patient organizations, additional payments to medical workers for working in COVID-19 conditions.
