Belarus’ Healthcare Minister meets with WHO Director General in Geneva

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The 68th session of the World Health Assembly is taking place in Geneva from 18–26 May 2015. The Belarusian delegation is led by Healthcare Minister Vasily Zharko, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The assembly plans to discuss and take decisions on the current global healthcare issues: preventive measures and treatment of non-infectious diseases, TB prevention, the protection of the health of newborns, expansion of access to the main pharmaceutical products. In his speech at the plenary session of the World Health Assembly the head of the Belarusian delegation pointed out the priority tasks in healthcare, i.e. the development of the primary health care, gradual transition to general practice, strengthening of preventive measures, and the expanded use of telehealth consulting technologies,” the press service said.

Vasily Zharko also talked about the measures Belarus undertakes to strengthen the healthcare system, in particular, the improvement of the legislation, the renewal of the material and technical basis, the harmonization of the healthcare management structure and the development of the primary health care.

The Belarusian Healthcare Minister held meetings and talks with WHO Director General Margaret Chan, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia Michel Kazatchkine, Director of the IAEA Division of Program of Action for Cancer Therapy Nelly Enwerem-Bromson, healthcare ministers of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Cuba, Lithuania, Russia, Syria, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation and supplies of Belarusian medicines.

The Healthcare Ministers of Belarus and Lithuania signed a ministerial agreement on cooperation in healthcare.
