Belarus government approves 2016-2020 UNFPA country program

MINSK, 24 March (BelTA) – The government has approved the country program of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Belarus for 2016-2020, the press service of the Belarus government told BelTA.

The country program has been worked out on the basis of the UNFPA’s strategic plan for 2014-2017 and the UN framework program for aiding Belarus for development purposes in 2016-2020.

In line with the country program the UNFPA efforts will be focused on preparing and implementing projects in three main areas: reproductive health, gender equality and broader rights and opportunities for women, population number dynamics.

The government has also approved the project for the UNFPA to provide international technical aid for the sake of developing inclusive local government in the Republic of Belarus. The project provides for creating new educational programs for civil servants on the basis of the Public Administration Academy under the Belarus President. As part of the project municipal government agencies in Gomel Oblast will also test new instruments designed to evaluate the quality of government services and mechanisms of involving the general public into the resolution of local development problems.
